After spending his formative years exploring the great vineyards of central Alabama, Ryne found himself in search of something, well, less muscadine-based. Somewhere along the way he developed a tooth for the wines of Europe, a passion that lead him to the life-long tumble down a very vinous rabbit hole. His tenure at Potomac Selections began at the tender age of 22 in a small retail shop in Richmond, VA, where he was found attempting to "discover" the entire world of craft beer alone. He now helms the good ship Potomac.
Eric’s love of wine began 20 years ago while in college and grew during his career in software. After battling the beltway traffic for years, he decided to turn his passion into a career by joining Potomac Selections in 2003 and then becoming a partner in 2004. His continuing education has taken him through France, Italy and Spain. Eric holds a B.S. in Chemistry from The University of South Carolina – Aiken and resides in the City of Falls Church, VA with his wife and two daughters.
Geoffrey began working with wine in 2007 at a small wine bar in his home state of Georgia. His path to Potomac has seen him working behind more "vino-centric" bars in both North Carolina and D.C., with intermittent stints in the vineards of Monsant and Rioja. A self-proclaimed "Ibero-phile", Geoffrey is more than happy to show you "proper" Porron-ing techniques while waxing poetic about the brilliance of Sherry. He is a Certified Sommelier and has passed his WSET Level III with Merit.
Baltimore / MD North Sales
Before joining Potomac Selections, Caroline had been bartending and managing in the Baltimore restaurant scene since 2014. An initial interest in craft beer led her to become a buyer for the bar program at Parts & Labor which is where her love of wine began. During this time, pairing wine with food became a daily experience, and one that still fuels her passion for bringing good wine to people. Caroline holds an MFA in Printmaking from Arizona State University and lives in Baltimore City.
Charlottesville / VA West Sales
Liz has a background in Art and Design, holding a Bachelor of Arts from The Evergreen State College, and a Masters of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia. An avid traveler and documentarian, Liz's relationship to wine changed the first time that she tried a well-balanced 1er Cru Chablis on one of her many adventures, a discovery that attuned her to the complex world of wine and wine-making. Having worked as a bartender, chef, and wine director in many a restaurant from Brooklyn, NY to Charlottesville, VA, Liz brings a passion for food and wine that spans from front to the back of house.
She currently lives in Charlottesville where she enjoys growing things and cooking for her friends.
DC / NoVA Sales
One of the two original founding partners of Potomac Selections, Tom's path has been fortuitously circular as, after a sojourn back to the realm of wine retail, he has returned his experience and expertise to the mid-Atlantic market as our lead salesman in Maryland. Tom has a particular affinity for and fond recollections of all the old (and formerly underpriced!) wines from the Jura he has consumed over the years. Ask him about a particular bottle of 1937 Cotes du Jura Blanc and you may see tears.
Baltimore / MD South Sales
Will first developed serious interest in wine as the General Manager at Ten Ten American Bistro in Baltimore. Two years later, he successfully passed the Certified Sommelier exam and began putting together a distinguished Italian wine list at Urbana Dining & Drinks in Washington, D.C. Now part of the Potomac team, Will is thrilled to return to his roots in Baltimore and to serve the wine community in Maryland. Some of Will's favorite wine regions include Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, and Tuscany. When he's not sharing his enthusiasm for wine, you can find him hiking the Shenandoah or at an O's game.
Sales Manager / Central VA Sales
A six year veteran of the Potomac team, David grew up spending his summers in Spain with family, where he got his first real taste for the joys of wine. His passion was cemented while working his first wine job at The Cheese Shop in Williamsburg, VA. Since those formative days, David has continued to be motivated by the pleasure of experiencing and learning new things about wine. His enthusiasm is infectious.
Aaron is a local native to the DC area, having detoured for some years in Boston, MA and Raleigh, NC. His love of wine was sparked in college and has persisted as he delves deeper and deeper into the Potomac 'company store.' A classically trained bassoonist and self-taught guitar demigod, his natural knack for rhythm and harmony are welcome assets as he gracefully navigates the logistical challenges we hurl his way. Aaron is also our local expert on the proper preparation of a 'bone dry.'
